At Church Lane Everyone’s Church (CLEC), we believe church should feel like family. Located in the heart of the historic market town of Stafford, we are a church with a simple vision: to discover Jesus, follow Jesus, and share the good news of Jesus in our community.

 

Our church family is wonderfully diverse, bringing together children, young people, families, working adults and retirees. Throughout the week our building is full of life - from Bible study groups and youth activities to our thriving parent and toddler group, badminton club and keep fit sessions for older adults.

 

These activities welcome not only members of our church family but many people from the wider community who may have little or no previous experience of church. You can find more information about the activities at the church on our web site.

We are seeking someone who shares our heart for people, has a passion for teaching God’s word, and is eager to help us strengthen our church family - particularly by supporting children, young people and families as they grow in faith together.

About Us

CLEC is an independent church, with values and teaching similar to those of churches within the Baptist tradition. Leadership is provided by a team of elders, with the Pastor serving as one of the elders and providing particular leadership in teaching, pastoral ministry and discipleship. Our pastor, who is retiring after 9 years in the role, works with 5 other elders, three of these elders are also the trustees of the church.

 

Being located in the centre of Stafford means our community is unique. Rather than serving one housing estate, we welcome people from across the town and surrounding villages. Many first connect with us through our weekday activities, friendships or simply by walking through our doors.

The Opportunity

Working alongside our leadership team, you will help nurture a welcoming church family where people of every age can be helped to discover, follow, share Jesus.

 

A particular focus of this role will be encouraging and equipping families, strengthening relationships across generations, and helping people become mature followers of Jesus.

 

While we have identified key priorities, we would expect you to develop your own gifts, experience, and vision to complement those of others in the church family.

Key Responsibilities

Ministry Leadership

Working closely with the elders, you will:

  • Provide spiritual leadership, vision and pastoral oversight.

  • Help shape the future direction of church life and ministry.

  • Develop clear discipleship pathways that enable children, young people, adults and families to grow in biblical understanding and Christian maturity.

  • Encourage a culture of prayer, service and mission throughout the church.

Teaching and Preaching

You will:

  • Regularly preach and teach God’s Word during Sunday services.

  • Lead teaching within youth and young adult ministries.

  • Help people engage confidently with Scripture and apply biblical truth in everyday life.

  • Encourage thoughtful, accessible and Christ-centred teaching across all ages.

Pastoral Care

You will:

  • Provide pastoral support across the church family, working alongside existing pastoral teams.

  • Build trusted relationships with children, young people, adults and families.

  • Visit, encourage and pray with members of the church family as needs arise.

  • Ensure all pastoral ministry is carried out within safeguarding policies and best practice.

Developing People

We believe ministry belongs to the whole church.

 

You will:

  • Encourage and mentor volunteers to discover and use their God-given gifts.

  • Help develop future leaders, including young adults and young people.

  • Foster a culture of teamwork, encouragement and shared responsibility.

  • Equip others for discipleship, service and mission.

Building Community

Community is central to who we are.

 

You will:

  • Help strengthen relationships across our church family.

  • Develop opportunities for people of all ages to connect and belong.

  • Work alongside leaders of existing ministries including youth groups and our parent and toddler group.

  • Build relationships with local schools, colleges and community organisations where appropriate.

  • Continue and strengthen our partnerships with organisations such as Stafford Street Pastors and House of Bread.

Administration and Governance

You will:

 

  • Help ensure ministry is well planned and communicated.

  • Maintain appropriate records and planning documentation.

  • Ensure all ministries operate in line with safeguarding, health and safety, GDPR and other statutory requirements.

Who we’re looking for someone who is:

Essential

  • A committed follower of Jesus Christ with a mature and growing faith.

  • Passionate about teaching the Bible and making disciples.

  • Someone who genuinely enjoys building relationships with people of all ages.

  • A gifted communicator, both one-to-one and when speaking to groups.

  • Able to inspire, encourage and equip others.

  • A collaborative team player with humility, wisdom and resilience.

  • Committed to safeguarding and creating safe environments for everyone.

Desirable

  • Theological training or a willingness to undertake further study.

  • Experience leading or serving in children’s, youth or family ministry.

  • Experience organising events or community activities.

  • Experience in worship leadership or other creative ministry.

Accountability

The Pastor will:

  • Serve as part of the eldership team.

  • Report to the Chair of Elders.

  • Work collaboratively with church leaders, volunteers and ministry teams.

Hours and Salary

This is a post of 36 hours per week, including Sundays and agreed ministry activities during evenings and weekends.

 

We recognise flexibility may be helpful, and applications for between 25–36 hours per week will be considered, with salary adjusted accordingly.

 

Salary: £30k-£35k (dependent on experience) with pension contribution of 3% of Qualifying Earnings

 

Holiday: 25-28 days per year plus statutory bank holidays (pro rata where applicable)

 

 

 

This role is subject to an Occupational Requirement that the post-holder is a practising Christian under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010

 

Appointment will be subject to satisfactory references, a criminal record check (DBS: a satisfactory Enhanced DBS Disclosure Check of the Adult workforce and an Enhanced DBS with Barred List check of the Child Workforce) and evidence of your Right to Work in the UK in line with Home Office requirements.
